Individual Psychotherapy
Together we will explore the emotional problems that make life or relationships difficult, unmanageable, or overwhelming in order to increase self-understanding and personal agency. My approach emphasizes the factors outside our awareness that affect thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We will examine your relationships as systems of interdependent parts, identify important themes and patterns, and make use of the therapeutic relationship as a microcosm of your approach to relationships.
Couple Psychotherapy
I will help you examine the maladaptive ways of interacting that serve to maintain problems in your relationship. Like an instructor in a dance lesson, I will observe and intervene in your interactions as they occur in our sessions in order to help you "dance better" together. At the same time, I will help you explore hidden issues, fears, and desires that may be fueling dysfunctional processes so that you can construct a more accepting, more hopeful story of your relationship.
